Prairie Five RIDES Transportation Program

The Prairie Five RIDES transit system is a demand responsive combination of Volunteer Driver and bus service.

Eligibility: General Public of all ages

Serves the counties of: Big Stone, Chippewa, Lac qui Parle, Swift and Yellow Medicine

City Systems: Appleton, Benson, Canby, Dawson, Madison, Montevideo, Ortonville

Destinations with buses: Twin Cities, Marshall, Willmar, St. Cloud. We go to areas throughout the state with Volunteer Drivers and some locations to North / South Dakota. (Never hurts to ask if we can provide it.)

City Bus Service

Prairie Five RIDES operates city bus service in seven cities in our five county region.  The city bus is an on-demand service which operates on a first-come, first-serve basis.  When possible, please call the Dispatch office in advance to schedule your ride, 877-757-4337.

City Service Fares

  • City Fare (one-way): $2.00
  • Youth Punch Card (25 Punches): $25.00
  • General Punch Card (20 Punches): $25.00
  • Senior Punch Card (16 Punches): $15.00
  • Unlimited Monthly Pass: $35.00
  • Kids Unlimited Summer Pass: $40.00
  • Youth Unlimited School Year Passes

Youth Unlimited School Year Passes

  • 1 Child Family: $220.00
  • $50.00 each additional child
  • $400.00 maximum per family

Regional Service

Prairie Five RIDES offers transportation to residents of Big Stone, Chippewa, Lac qui Parle, Swift, and Yellow Medicine counties and extends across the state of Minnesota and into eastern regions of North and South Dakota. When possible please request rides 5-7 days in advance by contacting the Dispatch Office at 877-757-4337. Regional Service Fares

Roundtrip Fares:

  • Adults: $.40 per mile
  • Youth/Child: $.35 per mile
  • Seniors (60 years & older): $.25 per mile
  • $5.00 minimum per trip

One-way Fares:

  • Adults: $.60 per mile
  • Youth/Child: $.53 per mile
  • Seniors (60 years & older): $.38 per mile
  • $5.00 minimum per trip
