Prairie Five Head Start School Readiness Goals Progress – Annual Report
We made progress as a program this year and overall are meeting growth expectations and the Program Goal of 90% of students meeting the Widely Held Expectations (WHE) for their age level. The 3 Year Olds showed very strong growth this year. This is similar to past years’ performance. The 4 Year Olds did not progress as well as their younger counterparts. Less than 90% of 4 year olds are meeting WHE for their age. This is quite different from the past three years growth, which is available to compare.
Please follow the chart below to see this year’s growth compared to last year’s growth for 4 year olds:
Domain | Fall ‘12 | Fall ‘13 | Spring ‘13 | Spring ‘14 | % at WHE ‘13 | % at WHE | % |
Soc/Emot | 47.7 | 45.1 | 63.6 | 57.5 | 95 | 85 | -10 |
Physical | 30.7 | 30 | 37.1 | 34.8 | 97 | 87 | -10 |
Language | 46.2 | 44.7 | 58.3 | 53.7 | 91 | 80 | -11 |
Cognitive | 49.2 | 47.5 | 66.6 | 60.4 | 97 | 81 | -16 |
Literacy | 41.6 | 38.5 | 68.7 | 58.4 | 96 | 89 | -10 |
Math | 29.8 | 28.8 | 44.1 | 39.3 | 96 | 88 | -8 |
We are still analyzing data to see what has caused the difference this year. We did have a number of new teachers using the assessment this year. Their unfamiliarity with the tool may have made a difference in the way children were scored, however, there have been new staff every year and we have not seen this kind of difference before.
