Energy Assistance

Helping households maintain affordable, continuous, and safe home energy.

The Energy Assistance Program is federally funded through the U.S Department of Health and Human Services, it provides financial assistance to pay a portion of a household’s energy and heating bills. In addition, the program offers emergency assistance for utility disconnection, educates consumers to use home heating energy efficiently and safely, and provides emergency heating system repair or replacement for homeowners under the Energy Related Repair Program (ERR).

Assistance to households is based on income, household size, and the actual cost of heating fuels for a consecutive twelve (12) month period which includes the previous heating season. To establish eligibility, a household must complete an application, be vulnerable to home heating costs and document household income.

COVID-19 UPDATE

The 2021 Energy Assistance Program Season began on October 1, 2020. Applications for the 2021 heating season were sent to 2020 approved households starting the end of August. Applications for NEW applicants are available in this website, available to send through regular mail and available for pick up at any of our Prairie Five office locations.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, our office walk-in assistance is limited to scheduled appointments only to reduce public interactions. To maintain health safety we ask visitors to our buildings wear masks and not come in if they have any COVID-19 related symptoms. Our staff is working diligently to process applications and resolve energy crises, and onsite staff is available for urgent requests that cannot be resolved over the phone.

Please contact us at eap@prairiefive.org or via telephone at any our office locations with questions or for more information about our Energy Assistance Program.
